The Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy is an annual award for a Canadian journalist to undertake a research project on a topical public policy issue. It culminates in the publication of a series of articles in The Toronto Star, which the journalist may later develop into a book or documentary.
Founded in 1988, this prestigious Fellowship promotes social and economic justice as well as the commitment to liberal journalism espoused by Joseph E. Atkinson, former publisher of The Toronto Star.
The Fellowship is held for a one-year period from September 1 to August 31. During this time, the Fellow is expected to work exclusively on his or her research. The Fellow is paid a stipend of $75,000 and up to $25,000 for research expenses.
The award is jointly sponsored by The Atkinson Charitable Foundation, The Toronto Star and the Honderich Family.
The 2013 Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy is now closed. The recipient will be announced in early June 2013.

La bourse Atkinson en affaires publiques est destinée à un projet de recherche sur une question d'actualité portant sur les affaires publiques. Ses résultats seront publiés sous la forme d'une série d'articles dans le Toronto Star, résultats que le journaliste pourra utiliser en vue d’un livre ou d’un documentaire.
Fondée en 1988, la bourse a pour but d’améliorer la tradition du journalisme libéral et l’engagement envers la justice sociale et économique qu’incarnait Joseph E. Atkinson, ancien éditeur du Toronto Star.
La bourse couvre une période d’un an, du 1er septembre au 31 août. Elle prévoit une allocation de 75 000 $ et un budget pouvant atteindre 25 000 $ pour couvrir les dépenses de recherche. Le boursier comprend qu’il devra renoncer à d’autres activités journalistiques durant cette période.
La bourse est parrainée par The Atkinson Charitable Foundation, le Toronto Star et la famille Honderich.
